The pandeiro is a Brazilian frame drum. It is shallow, about 25 centimeters in diameter and with a row of jingles. The skin may be natural or made of plastic. This is the traditional drum of the samba, the bossa nova and choro, but is now widely used in Brazilian music. The pandeiro, with its many distinct sounds, can produce and reproduce a myriad of different rhythms, it is almost like having a complete drum set in the palm of your hand. It is held in one hand while the other hand strikes the frame and the skin .
